Every morning: 500 skips with a jump rope, fifty push-ups, core work, lifting and then stretching to cool down. Each morning: oatmeal after the workout, ½ banana with juice to drink. The power of a healthy routine should be obvious, but breaking a routine – even a healthy one- can also help bring about positive outcomes.
If things aren’t quite going right with a client and you need to address it soon, or if you have an important meeting coming up with a key prospect – think about breaking a routine that day. Breaking a routine, just for a day, heightens your awareness of and attention to those you come into contact with:
• Start-Up…Change how you begin the day. Exercise differently, eat something different.
• Navigation…Take a different route wherever it is you have to go, by whatever it means.
• Costume…Wear something you normally wouldn’t Dress up or dress down, but dress different.
Feel free to go back to your routine the next day, it will feel like home – but that short break will give you an extra edge, a competitive edge, right when you need it.
