Grat • i • tude: The quality of being thankful, readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness
Under the charge of helping people with people, our voice here at DonBrown.Org is a blend of many. Today’s voice is that of Kelly Eden, my daughter and Account Manager extraordinaire. Thank you for your voice Kelly!
Gratitude is a popular topic this time of year – what are you thankful for? It can be an afterthought 364 days of the year, until it is your turn sitting around the turkey – or whatever your tradition may be – to share your appreciation.
Showing gratitude is something that doesn’t get as much credit as it deserves. Whether it is with family, friends, or coworkers – vocalizing your gratitude can go a long way.
The sensation we as individuals get when we feel appreciated is powerful. It can brighten a day, improve an opinion, or change a relationship dynamic. For the people that are important in your life – speak up, be specific, everyone loves to feel valued and needed. Bring it in into your daily communication:
With family: The area we naturally may overlook, the ones closest to us – “I appreciate you always making the coffee in the morning – the start to my day is so much smoother.”
With friends: The family that we choose – “I am grateful to have you in my life; you are always able to make me laugh.”
With coworkers: To someone you trust – “I know I can always count on you to help me with the budget, thank you.”
The true test of gratitude is the demonstrated readiness to return kindness – not something that most of us think about. Vocalize your gratitude, and then reciprocate and build from the foundation of it. “Here, let me help you.”
Be genuine – Be specific – Give back.
I hope you all have a safe and Happy Holiday with those who mean the most to you.
